  • ★★★★★ A career-best performance by Mina Kaye. Tracie Pang navigating the script adroitly. As with the best Pangdemonium productions, no expense is spared with it comes to the design elements. End of the Rainbow marks a stellar end to Pangdemonium’s 2022 Season.

  • A magical night in the theatre. Everything was on point, from the set, costumes, great characters and actors, and live music and singing. Tens, tens, ten across the board!

  • How do I put into words how I feel about one of the best performances I’ve seen this year? The crazy amount of artistry and detail that went into brining this story to life is testament to the love and care each actor/creative brought to the staging of Judy’s final moments. I am blown away. Just. Wow.

Legend. Superstar. Tragedy.

Judy Garland is all of these. And so much more.

London, 1968: as Garland performs her infamous final concerts, she fights her loved ones, alienates her fans, battles her demons…and sings her heart out.

We meet a woman-child with so much love to share, who has given so much joy to so many, but who has struggled all her life to find the kind of love and happiness she yearns for.

END OF THE RAINBOW exposes the tormented heart and troubled mind of a truly unique individual, whose fragile soul was exchanged for fame and fortune…and then ultimately notoriety and destitution.

The Human behind the Tragedy.

The Person behind the Superstar.

The Woman behind the Legend.

  • Blistering drama...Director Tracie Pang allows the play to unfold with a quiet ferocity that keeps us rapt. Flashes of rage catch one almost by surprise while tender moments leave one fighting back tears.

A lot is said by the end but it's what remains unsaid that rings in our ears. The decision to localise the setting is also terrific. Late Company is a fine example of how text and performance fuse together to create truly compelling theatre.

    , Crystalwords
  • Pangdemonium has a strong track record of producing quality domestic dramas, and Late Company ranks among their best. Kudos to director Tracie Pang for pacing Late Company to perfection; under her direction, there are emotional moments that catch one completely by surprise. The localisation of Late Company has also been effectively carried out making its themes and narrative feel immediately relatable and urgent to the Singaporean audience.

Above all, it is the efforts of the talented cast that makes Late Company as arresting as it is. Poignant, gripping and fiercely relevant, Late Company is a powerful, moving production that will leave you devastated, and is essential viewing. This is important, socially impactful work that delivers on all fronts, from production value to performance to a smorgasbord of lessons and thoughts audiences will take away.

    , Bakchormeeboy
  • Director Tracie Pang and the team of actors are stellar, delivering Tannahill’s fervent text with precision and charm. It is a combination of ruthlessness and vulnerability that the characters and actors display that makes this play a real masterpiece.  Late Company is a must-watch play that checks all the right boxes. The text and visuals are in perfect harmony, and yet they leave a mark much deeper than can be articulated.

    , Centre42
  • Late Company holds so many elements and topics of discussion, thanks to Director Tracie Pang. The performance of the cast is beyond stellar. With an amazing cast and production team, Late Company is a play that will stir your emotions and keep you at the edge of your seat in anger and sorrow.

  • Late Company is a phenomenal piece of theatre which examines the issue of bullying today. It was tremendously moving and harrowing to watch at the same time...

The stellar cast Karen Tan, Adrian Pang, Edward Choy and Xander Pang held it together tight and told us an important story which reminded us that we have to keep talking to our children and those around us who may be in pain.

    , Pam Oei
  • This production was so, so moving. I quietly sobbed from the table setting to the very end…even through the laughter. The performances, words, set, lighting, everything was brilliant. Thank you so much for this experience.

    , Amy Hutton
  • An awkwardly brilliant play filled with emotions, #latecompany is about #cyberbullying and its possible consequences, finding closure, and in the process, inevitably and desperately trying to find someone or something to blame and coming to terms with our fears, faults and flaws. Another excellent one from #pangdemonium

    , Shana
  • Wow. @pangdemoniumtheatre’s Late Company was intense, saturated with emotion beneath all the polite talk. The play also brought a lot of topics to the surface, that might take awhile to absorb and reflect. A wonderful performance by the cast - I felt every sentence and wave of emotion from all the characters on stage.

  • I have this habit - of not finding out what I am watching whenever I step into a theater for any @pangdemoniumtheatre production...because they are always that good and I love that element of surprise and suspense I allow myself. Late Company - starring Janice Koh, Karen Tan, Adrian Pang, Edward Choy and Xander Pang, all brilliant in their own roles, element and headspace. Thought-provoking, utterly sobering, gripping and powerful - peppered with light hearted moments that make you realize life is indeed one whole tragedy with pockets of golden moments.

    , Dennis Chong
  • Once again Pangdemonium brings a phenomenal, gut-wrenching, relevant and very important piece of theatre to Singapore. Go watch #LateCompany. This one really hit home for me. Thank you.

  • So glad I managed to get last minute tix for Pangdemonium's Late Company. Giant bouquets to the entire cast—Adrian Pang, Janice Koh, Karen Tan, Edward Choy and Xander Pang—for their electrifying performances. A powerful, relevant script and great direction too. If I were a tissue-selling uncle or auntie, I'd head straight to the Victoria Theatre ahead of tonight's final performance, because the audience WILL NEED SEVERAL PACKETS EACH. The folks around me were sniffling so much, there must be pools of snot on the theatre floor.

    , Colin Goh
  • I didn’t know that to expect from watching a local production for the first time and little did I know that Late Company by Pangdemonium would resonate so deeply. Glad that this was the first of many plays I will be supporting. Kudos to the great cast for bringing awareness about depression and the realities of bullying to the crowd.

    , Shawn
  • My mind is still swirling from Pangdemonium’s latest production. My husband and I spent our journey back to our kids, talking. About bullies, getting bullied and being different. My hubby and I have not reached common ground - many questions with very few answers. But we agree to leave the channels of communication open and wide. With each other and with the kids. And to keep talking. Thank you Pangdemonium for always inspiring us and prompting us to confront difficult topics.

    , Tily Tea

Debora and Michael’s dinner guests are late. About one year late. That’s because it’s taken all this time for the couple to even dare to come face to face with Tamara and Bill, and their teenage son Curtis – the bully they believe is responsible for the suicide of their own son Joel.

For Debora and Michael, tonight is a nerve-racking step towards coming to terms with their loss; for Tamara and Bill, it’s a meeting they’ve been dreading but never expected to ever happen; and for Curtis, it’s going to be the worst dinner of his life.

Redemption, forgiveness and closure are on the menu, but first they all have to get through the main course of blame, shame and retribution. As everyone takes a turn in the hot seat for their real or imagined role in the tragedy, painful accusations are served and shocking secrets are spilled. And all through dinner, the spectre of Joel looms over a night that will change everyone’s lives forever.

Chillingly comic, nail-bitingly tense and provocatively polarizing, LATE COMPANY shines a stark light on our mutating 21st century society and volatile youth culture, and asks the urgent question: are we too late?

Quotes:
  • The best production of 2016 so far...elevated by the intelligence of Lucy Prebble's script, the airtight direction of Tracie Pang and a quartet of actors whose combined charms can persuade any government to purchase any drug at any price...the two central performances are revelatory: Linden Furnell fills the leading man's shoes with verve and vigour; Nikki Muller demonstrates grace and sensitivity...both are outstanding; Tan Kheng Hua is an entrancing presence, sharp and intense, scarred but supremely determined; Adrian Pang is as convincing as always, delivering an acting equivalent of a Houdini escape: he appears to be something of a 'slick d*ck' at first, only to be revealed as someone with a heart...

Pangdemonium has once again staged an incredibly polished and assured production. That effect is real - not a placebo.

    , Helmi Yusof, Business Times
  • Tracie Pang delivers another instance of effortless direction that keeps this play funny, moving and constantly engaging...witty, humorous, spirited, charming, joyful…Muller and Furnell turn in one of their strongest performances to date with a chemistry that truly sets the stage ablaze.

  • THE EFFECT continues Pangdemonium's long streak of top-notch productions...bitingly funny, brilliantly researched play...Furnell and Muller bring convincing nervous energy to their roles, Pang is deliciously restrained; perhaps the brightest in this complement of stars is Tan Kheng Hua.

  • Watching Pangdemonium’s The Effect, I am once again awestruck by three facts: one, that Pangdemonium’s choice of scripts are always top-notch - intelligent, evocative, stimulating and relevant; two, they then go on to stage them in the most enthralling, enlivening and entertaining way; and most impressively, that director Tracie Pang is singularly able to always get the absolute best performances from her cast. In every production, she skilfully pushes and stretches each actor to surprise and astonish the audience (and probably the actors themselves) beyond anything they’ve demonstrated thus far.

Relatively young actors are mentored and moulded to shine, and seasoned actors are pushed out of their comfort zones to give career-high performances. And her meticulous staging and directorial flourishes are impeccable - never overbearing or ostentatious, always subtle and stylish. Simply great theatre. Bravo, Pangdemonium!

    , Angelica Teo
  • I caught THE EFFECT in London in 2012, and I’ve also read the script, so I know what a challenging piece this is. So i was hugely impressed by Pangdemonium’s interpretation of it! Under the expert direction of Tracie Pang, Pangdemonium's telling of this story was witty, poignant, passionate and made a whole new impact on me on so many levels.

Plus excellent production values, wonderful performances, and an all-round superb theatrical experience.

    , James Ellison
  • Another amazing theatre experience courtesy of Pangdemonium! Since seeing their production of Next to Normal back in 2013, we have been huge fans and haven’t missed a production (tip is to become Season pass holders)! The Effect also deals with mental illness to equally good impact but a different take. It is entertaining, challenging, brilliantly acted, helped of course by the excellent staging and directing.

Fight to get tickets if you have to, but go see it!

    , Katherine Perry
  • Just when you think you've seen them at their best, Pangdemonium produces another show that outdoes their last one! THE EFFECT is funny, surprising, poignant, thought-provoking, powerful, and makes us ask ourselves all sorts of disturbing questions. It's also an important exploration of mental health issues.

Brilliant work once again by director Tracie Pang, her excellent creative team and wonderful cast. Catch this show or you'll regret it!

    , Joanna Sim
  • Absorbing, passionate production with a strong cast. It was intellectual too - even though the subject matter is still very much a mystery. I admired how the topic of depression was handled so courageously. Oh, I have to say the set/ lighting was ingenious! I’m now beginning to wonder if I'm on a placebo or on drugs.

I keep falling in love with Pangdemonium's productions more and more. Again, bravo to the cast and crew!

    , Tina Gan
  • Always a good night with Pangdemonium! Stellar cast, meaningful message - your mind is a very powerful asset, so use it consciously and wisely. Everyone around you is battling something, even if it might not seem the case. Always see things beyond that shiny surface. Be kind… Love these guys for always picking hard-hitting and thought-provoking texts.

Thank you, Pangdemonium, for being the loud-speakers that not many dare to be.

    , KXLM
  • Excellent script, smart and compassionate...moving, outstanding performances, with special mention to Nikki Muller...the giddy first act belongs to the young couple, and the older couple will break your heart in the second act...THE EFFECT is effective AND affective.

    , Adeline Chia
  • I had the pleasure of watching Pangdemonium’s The Effect and it blew me away...it made me feel – Happy. I was happy to leave a theatre with my head filled with questions I will probably never be able to answer. I was happy to know our theatre industry is stocked with actors who can command an audience to silence or laughter with a cheeky grin or a perfectly belted one-liner. I was happy to see creative vision executed flawlessly from a very challenging source text.

I was very happy to hear robust conversations commence as soon as the house lights went up. Pangdemonium has put together a belter of a play here. Go see it. You need the happiness.

    , Raeza Ibrahim
  • You have to catch The Effect!!!!!! It was absolutely amazing! The cast was PERFECT, & the entire play was very very thought-provoking. Its not just about sex or love or drug, but bigger issues in life. & I thought that it was a very clever way to talk about the stigma surrounding depression.

It was all sooooo gooood!!! I reaaallly loved it & I've watched quite a number of plays but I still think this is THE BEST ONE.

    , Gewishi
  • The Effect is made vastly enjoyable to watch by the the people behind the characters. Nikki Muller and Linden Furnell share a palpable chemistry and easy banter that makes Connie and Tristan’s passionate romance heartrending, endearing and breathtaking all at once. Tan Kheng Hua shines in her role as Dr James, realistically and respectfully presenting the struggles that the mentally ill face on a daily basis, and Adrian Pang keeps the audience on the edge of their seats, eliciting laughs and gasps.

The cast works together seamlessly, upping the ante every time it seems like something’s finally going well, and makes the two and a half hours worth of plot seem like no time at all. The Effect masterfully explores the murky depths of Big Pharma, questions the fallibility of science, depicts the reality of living with mental illness, and poses its audience some very difficult questions which leave one trying to catch their breath when the curtain goes down.

This is one drug trial you won’t regret volunteering for.

    , Adelyn Tan

Connie is a beautiful psychology student. Tristan is a charming slacker. They are both “guinea pigs” in a clinical experiment for a new “super-drug”. Sealed off from the real world and monitored by two bickering doctors, the attraction between Connie and Tristan becomes increasingly intense, passionate and out of control, even as their daily dosage of the drug gets stronger.

Is this a chemical romance – a side effect of the drug? Or is it “the real thing”?

A brilliant examination of the human brain via the heart, The Effect explores questions of sanity, the ethical minefield of neuroscience, today’s pill-popping culture, and the very nature of this thing we call “LOVE”.

The Effect premiered to great acclaim at London’s National Theatre in 2012, winning the UK Critic’s Circle Award for Best New Play.

Many congratulations to Pangdemonium for pulling this off, with such steely resolve, overcoming the bumps and obstacles along the way - the cheers and claps you got from the capacity audience when you came into the hall shows how much your work is appreciated!

I am not a regular theatre goer, but being back last night for the first live performance in more than two years, I felt a loss of culture and connection from the last two years. 75 years ago, a little play previously known as The Gentleman Caller stole the heart of Broadway, became one of theatre’s most beloved classics, and kickstarted the evolution of an unknown playwright into a titan of 20th century drama. Pangdemonium is privileged to breathe fresh life into Tennessee Williams’ breathtakingly beautiful The Glass Menagerie and make it steal your hearts too.

Williams’ semi-autobiographical memory play looks at a fractured family through the prism of memory, and through the eponymous glass menagerie.

Tom Wingfield works in a factory but dreams of being a writer, free from the shackles of familial and financial responsibility. His sister Laura has grown into adulthood mentally fragile and cripplingly shy, isolated from the real world and seeking solace among her precious collection of glass figurines. And then there is their mother Amanda, a fearsome force of nature, barely hiding the fact that she is faded flower from a bygone era, yearning for a better life for them all.

Although he longs to break free from his domineering mother and stifling home life, Tom feels compelled to stay because of his profound loyalty to his sister.

Then possible salvation comes in the form of a dinner party they host for Jim, their Gentleman Caller, who symbolizes the promise of love for Laura, social and financial respectability for Amanda, and freedom for Tom.

Like the glass menagerie that represents their delicate world, his entry into their lives may cast a magical spell over their cloistered existence, or it could spell the shattering of all their dreams.

  • IMPOSSIBLE TO NOT LOVE…Pangdemonium has perfected the neat balance act of presenting theatre which entertains and also educates…Falling is yet another winner…

Amid a stellar cast, directed by Tracie Pang, Andrew Marko shines, and rightfully so…a must-watch

  • Pangdemonium’s heart-wrenching play FALLING…there’s no way your eyes will stay dry for this one…Tracie Pang constructs a drum-tight drama…a beautifully realistic set by Wong Chee Wai and Chris Chua; James Tan’s lighting and Gu Ningru’s sound design complete the everyday illusion. If, like most theatre-lovers, you have a soft spot for great acting, FALLING will keep your eyes riveted.

Tan Kheng Hua is extraordinary in her demanding role as a beleaguered mother. Several times during the play, her face is soaked in hot tears. Equally moving is Adrian Pang as the father torn between loving his son and worrying if the toll of raising him is too great on his marriage and his teenage daughter. Young Andrew Marko is quite remarkable in his portrayal of the autistic son - the speech difficulties, facial expressions, motions and gestures common to severe autism have been meticulously adapted into his characterisation of Josh. It is a fully committed turn…

Every performance of FALLING is also followed by a live discussion. It is an impressive effort by Pangdemonium and the guest speakers to shed light on a fairly common but poorly understood disorder.

  • Director Tracie Pang calibrates the emotional temperature to perfection, keeping the action lived-in and avoiding sentimentality or theatrics...Andrew Marko gives a standout performance, a tour de force of character acting…Tan Kheng Hua is the beating heart of the show, and her nuanced performance of a quietly resilient mother will have one biting back tears…Much of what makes Falling so powerful is its authenticity.

The play also translates effortlessly to a Singapore setting, reminding us that autism is very much a universal problem…the production is rounded out by Wong Chee Wai and Chris Chua’s stunningly recreated apartment set and James Tan’s beautiful lighting. It is important to recognize Pangdemonium’s outreach efforts to members of the autistic community and engaging post-show talks.

  • This is really life-changing theatre. Falling is enlightening, heartbreakingly beautiful, emotional, unforgettable and exceptional. I am thankful that Pangdemonium has brought this unseen world to the stage in Singapore. Kudos to director Tracie Pang’s wonderful direction and the stellar cast for a powerful emotive performance.

I walked away realising my mothering struggles were minute in comparison with what some others face, and went home loving my son more.

  • We have heard so much talk about how artists want to use their art to touch the masses and to raise awareness on important social issues. I have not felt this - not till tonight. FALLING by Pangdemonium gripped me, drew me into the story, made me cry with many in the audience, and more importantly, made me more aware and empathetic to the struggles faced by caregivers of special needs individuals.

I can’t recommend this show enough.

  • We watched the play last night with our teenage daughter. We have a 13 year-old boy with autism. It was such an emotional and moving experience for the three of us, as if we were seeing a day in our life being played out on stage. Thank you for harnessing the power of theatre to reach out to a larger audience beyond the ASD community.

Thank you for putting your heart and soul into telling this beautiful story about unconditional love and the torment, pain and struggles, and hope it brings.

  • I am immensely humbled by the brilliant performance by the cast and I really respect the directorial work done by the wonderful Tracie Pang. The subtlety with which they showed the normal, everyday struggles of a family with an autistic family member was nothing short of powerful. It’s a play that will make you laugh, chuckle, cry.

It’s a play that will make you want to get talking. It’s a play that will make you want to do your part. I want to do what I can to make this world a better place and it starts with raising awareness. Let’s take action, guys.

  • I do not have an 18-year-old son with autism but Pangdemonium’s FALLING gave me a glimpse into the frustrations and dilemmas, and the unconditional love needed to navigate through this. Adrian Pang and Tan Kheng Hua were so convincing I cried my eyeballs out.

We had a post-show dialogue and so many questions were raised from the audience. What a meaningful way to engage the public on the issue of adult autism and to raise awareness. Adrian and Tracie Pang, I respect you for the work you do.

This is a story that needed to be told, and you told it brilliantly. Bravo!

  • Falling is a must-watch for those who wonder what goes on behind the doors of families coping with autism. It will open your eyes beyond what you think you know. Watching Falling evoked a deep sense of familiarity for me as a caregiver. Yet Falling is not a dark play. The cast brilliantly manages to help you laugh even as you are trying to digest the dire circumstances.

I would like to thank director Tracie Pang, the cast, and everyone in Pangdemonium for helping us broach this almost taboo subject and I pray that such awareness will move people into asking "How can I help?”

  • So real, so human, so many feelings to deal with. This is really a story of love. Brilliant direction by Tracie Pang, and stellar performance by the cast. Really thankful for a theatre company like Pangdemonium, hope they continue to bring plays that touch the heart, enlighten, inspire, educate, and better society as a whole just as they have made me believe art and theatre can.

This is the real season of love.

  • This is probably the most honest, brutal, unrelenting yet poignant examination of how families cope with having a child with autism. It was funny at times, heart wrenching at others, and beneath it was the very real pain of loving someone who is difficult to love, but whom you cannot give up on because that is just how love is. I was crying non-stop, it was that good. And the post-show dialogue was very enlightening. Awesome.

Pangdemonium never disappoints, kudos to brilliant director Tracie Pang and her cast for a very sensitive and real depiction of a family’s struggle to love.

  • Pangdemonium did their name company justice - the pang of emotions you feel after the whole thing. Left the theatre with my heart aching and my mind racing. I’m really glad that this has raised much awareness about the realm of autism and also allowed the public a peek into the struggles of caregivers and families. Love how they displayed not only the love they have for their child, but also the angst, fear and fatigue that are all so, so real.

Wonderful direction by Tracie Pang and stellar performance by the cast, in particular Andrew Marko. Yet another amazing production by Pangdemonium.

  • Shitty as f*** day, redeemed by one of the best plays I have ever watched. Sat through the entire play fighting to hold back my tears. Extremely talented local cast telling a story of a family’s struggle in taking care of their autistic child. Still recovering from the emotional rollercoaster but truly one of the best theatre experiences yet.

Pangdemonium, I can’t thank you enough for staging such a great play. My bad day has been redeemed.

Tami and Bill are ordinary parents doing their best to bring up their two teenage kids – Lisa, 16, full of attitude and angst; and Josh, who demands extraordinary attention, because he’s an 18-year-old boy with severe autism. Family life is a precarious balancing act revolving around Josh, his routines, his obsessions, and the rigid set of rules that have been created for them to get through each day.

When this delicate balance is shattered, it literally becomes a matter of life and death for this family.

An electrifying and enlightening family drama, Falling examines the meaning of unconditional love, and dares to ask: “How do you love someone who is difficult to love?”
