A Message from
our Artistic Directors

2 FEBRUARY 2026

We, Tracie Pang and Adrian Pang, the co-Founders and co-Artistic Directors of Pangdemonium Theatre Company, will be stepping away from the company at the end of 2026 – our finale Season.

As a proudly Singaporean theatre company, the past fifteen or so years have been a journey of highs and lows, of fulfilment and frustration, of triumphs and trials; it has been all-consuming in the most rewarding ways, and at times the most distressing ways. From a humble family-fuelled start-up in 2010, we have gradually grown, evolved, expanded, finding our voice and our identity, discovering and defining our DNA, creating new initiatives such as being the first and only Singapore theatre company to announce an annual Season in conjunction with our Season Ticket, and championing the next generation of theatre makers with our youth mentorship programmes in performance, writing, stage management, and production.

In every one of our productions - contemporary plays and musicals, modern classics, international texts adapted to a Singapore context, original commissions – we have always done our best to live up to our mission to tell stories which are challenging, inspiring, relevant, accessible, and above all, of the highest artistic, entertainment, and production values, in a league with the very best of theatre internationally. We have always believed in creating theatre that strives to enrich, enlighten and empower, surprise, stir and stimulate; that impacts on audiences viscerally, intellectually, emotionally. As such, we have produced work that tackles difficult themes, asks tough questions, provokes constructive debate, and dares us all to change for the better; that helps us see someone else's point of view, share in someone's journey, and unites us despite our differences; that celebrates life, and champions struggle, survival and the human spirit; that makes us count our blessings, appreciate this world more, and strive to live more meaningful lives; stories that Singaporeans can relate to and identify with, and at the same time, have a global resonance and universal significance.

In short, we have done our best to take people on "ass-kicking adventures in theatre", and that has given us the most gratification, purpose and joy.

There have been not-so-joyful times: the most recent being the pandemic, when live theatre went dark. And the aftermath of that period has resulted in increased costs of materials and services, which has inflated theatre production costs; worldwide economic uncertainty, which has impacted people's spending habits; the proliferation of online media, which has caused a significant change in the public's choice of recreational activities…the list goes on, making it much more of a challenge than ever before to produce theatre, not just in Singapore, but in every theatre industry globally.

But through fair and foul weather, we have soldiered on, with the invaluable assistance from the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth; the National Arts Council; the Cultural Matching Fund; the steadfast support and encouragement from our Pangdemonium followers; and the perseverance and tenacity of our Pangdemonium team.

That being said, after much soul-searching, deliberation, and consideration of our journey to where we are right now, we have come to a decision – and we wish to emphasise that this is a purely personal decision – that as individuals, as theatre practitioners, and as the Founders and Artistic Directors of a company bearing our family name, the Pangdemonium chapter of our lives is coming to a close, and it is time to let a good thing go.

Having judiciously weighed the pros and cons of all the possible options, implications and consequences together with our Board of Directors, the conclusion has been reached that the most realistic, prudent and practical way forward, is for Pangdemonium as a theatre company, a registered charity and an Institution of Public Character (IPC), to take our final bow at the end of our 2026 Season.

We remain extremely proud of and passionate about Pangdemonium and what we do. If you'll forgive the analogy, as with the best love stories, we just want to call an end to the Pangdemonium story on our own terms, on a grace note, and while we are still in love.

So, it is with sincerity, humility and gratitude that we wish to say:

It has been an absolute honour to have had the faith and patronage of our followers and audience members, who have given us as much as we have put into every production, into every Season, and into Pangdemonium. We have always believed that every single individual who embraces some kind of art form, whether as a working professional, an avid hobbyist, or a passionate patron, will have their life enriched - we hope our work has done a bit of that for you. And for the encouragement, motivation and inspiration you have given us to do what we do, we are very, very thankful.

It has been our great fortune to have had the tremendous support of our Sponsors, Donors, Friends of Pangdemonium, and the National Arts Council, all of whom have been instrumental in keeping us going as a theatre company. We literally could not have done it without you, and we are extremely grateful.

It has been a true joy to have worked alongside every member (past and present) of the Pangdemonium family – our brilliant team, our wonderful Board of Directors, and every amazing freelance artist, creative and technician we have collaborated with - each of whom has given so much of themselves, and made Pangdemonium so meaningful and memorable for us. Thank you for everything.

It has been a real privilege for Pangdemonium to be part of the very essential Singapore theatre family – which is still relatively young and small, but which within a short period of time has flourished and developed dramatically. It has been an incredible experience for Pangdemonium to have had the opportunity to join in this journey, build friendships, and share in the Singapore story.

Thank you for an ass-kicking adventure and for the opportunity to create some pan(g)demonium.

Sincerely,
Pangdemonium Artistic Directors
