Singapore, Michigan

"A taut, gripping road trip tale that grapples with friendship, identity, and the meaning of home."
– Naeem Kapadia

We are proud to bring you the world premiere of a spanking new, original comedy-drama by first-time playwright Chong An Ong.Two Singaporeans and one American, all Gen Zs, are on a road trip in search of the legendary ghost town of Singapore, Michigan. When they get trapped in a snowstorm, they find themselves faced with life-or-death questions: will they survive the cold? Will they survive one another? Will they survive without Indomie?...Well, at least it’ll give them lots to TikTok about.

And as they freeze, fight, and freakout, they discover that they are actually searching for answers to life’s conundrums — passion vs.practicality, duty vs. dreams, and what it means to be “Singaporean” in the 21st century.

Equal parts moving, funny, and startlingly familiar, Singapore, Michigan investigates pressing questions on geography, identity, and belonging through the lens of one group of friends nearing the end of their time in college. An acclaimed staged reading of Singapore, Michigan was presented by Pangdemonium at the 2024 Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA).
