Two types of ideologies, however, are concerned in this case: the ideology of autonomous development and the ideology of institutional development. The former ideology is based on self-discipline, where the benefits and ethos within baseball are autonomously maintained and developed over time. The latter ideology, on the other hand, does not have or has only a little self-discipline, so the existing benefits or ethos of an institution cannot be preserved, while the outward ideology, in this case an ideology based on economics, is prioritized.

The Japanese highlighted Western ideals concerning these virtues, but insisted on drawing on the traditional ideas of Japanese culture, and thus sometimes replaced them with the spirit of Zen Buddism. However, no examination of the common and different factors involved in these beliefs was undertaken. The ideas of sportsmanship and fair play gradually permeated the Japanese players’ attitudes towards their mind and body.
