These results strongly suggested that the evolutionary features of the interacting proteins have been influenced by the type of their PPIs such as functional and framework modules. We clearly pointed out the advantage of utilizing a vast amount of information about PPIs in the molecular evolutionary studies of biological networks. In particular, we successfully showed that the evolution of proteins as the components of PPI networks can be understood, to a reasonably great extent, through the evolutionary rates.
