The "Antony Imiela Case" [13] from the UK exemplifies the problematic nature of DNA mass screenings. 6 rapes occured in different parts of the UK between November 2001 and October 2002, the first one, which took place in Kent district, led to the collection of over 2000 samples from volunteers, giving no match in the NDNAD (UK National DNA Database). The next 4 rapes, all taking place in other districts, showed that the rapist was not bound to a specific area (and accordingly was given the title of "the M-25 rapist").

The main reason for that is the individual genetic information inherently included in the sample, which is not relevant for identification of its owner [32]. It is feared that samples may be used in research, not necessarily relevant to the initial definition of forensic DNA databases as identification means [33]. Two types of this phenomenon, termed as "function creep", may be considered: (a) Utilization of information stored in a given database for further development of means serving its initial general purpose, and (b) Its utilization for completely different purposes [34].

Zadok 4 DNA Dragnets or Intelligence Led DNA Mass Screenings DNA mass screenings are defined [7] as: ".. [e]ssentially warrantless searches administered en masse to large numbers of persons whose only known connection with a given crime is that authorities suspect that a particular class of individuals may have had the opportunity to commit it" DNA mass screenings are performed in many countries. In the UK more than 280 screenings were executed until early 2006, involving over 80000 volunteers, giving an average size of 285 volunteers per screening [8].
